Understanding Anxiety Disorder Symptoms

Anxiety disorder symptoms give us insight into how anxiety disorders develop. Stemming from experiences, anxiety/panic and learning, these symptoms can be expressed physically, behaviourally and psychologically.
Many of them occur across all anxiety disorders reinforcing the belief that these problems are all related. When we truly understand anxiety disorders, we know that it is much more than this. These problems are not just related, they are the same problem, merely expressed in different ways.

Here’s some of the symptoms that many people experience, whatever their disorder.

PHYSICAL

These can include:- headaches, digestion problems, bowel problems, allergy-type problems, fatigue, constant colds and skin problems and may be due in part to the suppression of the body’s immune system by chemicals released into the bloodstream when anxious.
(Please note that any recurring physical symptoms such as pains or function
problems (eg. digestion, bowel) need to be checked out by a medical doctor
as they could be the signs of underlying physical disease)

BEHAVIOURAL – some examples are:-

Chronic shyness
Feeling nervous and uncomfortable in the company of other people.
(possibly mild social phobia / social anxiety symptoms)

Excessive worrying
Persistant and uncontrollable worrying about people / events / situations.
(GAD – symptoms general anxiety disorder)

Avoidance behaviour
Avoiding situations where we can be judged, criticized and rejected or places
(eg. outdoors) and objects where we feel vulnerable.
(phobias)

Obsessions and compulsions
Attempts to reassure and protect ourselves – to allay the anxiety over inner
fears through a sense of control.
(OCD – obsessive compulsive disorder symptoms)

Hypochondria
Constantly visiting the Doctor. Every ache and pain becomes associated with being something more serious.

Depression
Involves feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, that events are beyond our control and everything we try to do fails or will fail.

Sexual problems
Fears over losing control and being judged on performance can maintain these problems.

1000

Others include: aggression, sleep disorders and eating disorders.

PSYCHOLOGICAL – expressed in our thoughts, feelings and actions, they can include:-

Perfectionism
Needing to be the strongest, the most beautiful, the cleverest, the most
handsome, have the best body, to do the best, to be the best etc.

Comparing
Always comparing ourselves with others and coming up short.

Self-consciousness
Constantly watching ourselves.

Child-like
Desperately needing the love and approval of parents and others.

Fantasies
Common ones include:- one day being rich/famous/great, loved by all.

Excessive tidiness
Represent attempts to bring form and order to our world, to gain a sense of
being in control.

Symmetry
Here, what is done by (happens to) one side of the body must be done by (happen to) the other side – also related to order and control.

Ending sentences with questions
To shift the attention away from us to the other person.

Mild paranoia
Involves constant feelings of ‘being picked on’ and ‘others are treated better’.

Body image
Believing our body, or parts of it, are ‘not good enough’.

Posture
Standing shoulders down, feet inwards and arms in front of body, trying to be
small, almost apologetic for being there.

Others include: persistent negative thoughts and images, constantly looking back for reasons and answers and feelings of having no control over our mind or body.

Which anxiety disorder symptoms exist, the number of symptoms, the extent to which they occur, the situations in which they appear and the way they interact with each other are as complex as the individual and the events experienced. They can support and confirm each other and strengthen until they become part of the make up of an individual. It’s not surprising that we tend to use such phrases as “It’s just the way I am” and “It’s just part of me”.

However, such behaviours do make up JUST PART of a person.

Someone who is sad – is also at times happy, weak – is at times strong, scared – is at times brave and unconfident – is at times confident!

The psychological symptoms above give us a massive clue as to what anxiety disorders really are and how we get them. They also show us how it is possible to cure anxiety disorders completely.

Dormanex – The Most Effective Sleep Aid

It is rather common these days for people to lose their sleep over nothing at all. All what they do is twist and turn in bed missing their beauty sleep when they should actually get some help with their sleeping. Instead, they could just ask Mr. Dormanex to take them to sleep land, which he would gladly do. Even insomnia doesn’t scare him, if he is “IN,” everyone can be rest assured and get a good night sleep, literally speaking. The best part is that he is 99.5% pure melatonin with an interestingly cool blend of 6 traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, which have been used in the Orient for over 4 centuries.

As we all know many of us are suffering from insomnia, which is robbing us of our sleep. We believe that sleep robbers need to be put down by any means necessary, says sheriff Dormanex. It is no ordinary sleeping aid; it is loaded with more active ingredients than any normal sleeping aid could possibly carry. Dormanex is not bitter to taste like the usual pill; on the contrary, it actually tastes like peppermint candy!!! This is a drug sans diphenhydramine and hence there is nothing to worry about its side effects. But the long-term results of this sleep aid are still not known.

Ideally, this drug should be used only for less than 5 days in a row and only just prior to going to hit the sac. Also, one need to make sure that he/she spends at least 8 hours in bed after taking this wonder aid so as to avoid any drowsiness in the morning.
Homeopathic medicine has been practised worldwide for over 200 years and plays a significant role in the healthcare systems of many countries today. This effective and scientific system of medicine assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself. It recognizes that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person, and that it is the patient who needs treatment, not the disease.

In 1796 a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann , discovered a different approach to the cure of the sick which he called homeopathy (from the Greek words meaning ’similar suffering’). Like Hippocrates 2,000 years earlier he realized that there were two ways of treating ill health, the way of opposites and the way of similars.

Take, for example, a case of insomnia. The way of opposites is to treat this by giving a drug to bring on an artificial sleep. This frequently involves the use of large or regular doses of drugs which can sometimes cause side-effects or addiction.

The way of similars – the homeopathic way – is to give the patient a minute dose of a substance which in large doses caused sleeplessness in a healthy person. Surprisingly this will enable the patient to sleep naturally. Because of the minute dosage no side-effects or addiction will result.

How does homeopathy work?

Homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body’s own healing power. This power is very great and many complaints heal themselves unaided; but when the healing process is faulty, blocked or slow, the homeopathic remedy acts as a stimulus to the curative powers of the body. To provide this stimulus your homeopath must prescribe the right remedy and the right dosage for you.

Homeopathy assesses the whole person, and focuses on disease prevention and health enhancement using natural medicines and patient education. Homeopathic medicines stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. Many health conditions can benefit from homeopathic care. Homeopathy is particularly effective in the treatment of long-term chronic diseases, as well as the prevention and reduction of acute conditions.

Five Tips To Help With Menopause And Insomnia

Hormones! Who needs ‘em? Well, evidently, women who want to sleep through the night need them, at least in moderation. If you’re suffering from insomnia and are also in menopause, you’re not alone. Hormone fluctuations in the body of a woman in menopause can contribute to insomnia.

If you’re suffering from insomnia related to menopause and are looking for relief, it helps to know WHY you’re not sleeping. You need to look at the underlying issues to determine why you’re not sleeping.

I’ll bet that one of the main culprits is the lovely hot flash. As adrenaline courses through our bodies, we break out in sweat. We often awake when the adrenaline rush hits our brain (or when the sheets are too wet – whichever occurs first!). And after you are awake, with a racing brain, it’s hard to calm down enough to go to sleep. You end up lying in bed, staring at the clock, wishing you could just get enough sleep to get through your day tomorrow.

And even if you’re not experiencing hot flashes, you still may not be immune to the side effects of menopause and insomnia. Women who are experiencing insomnia are often worried about “the change”. Pair that with a constant jumble of thoughts from an overactive mind – a lethal combination when you’re seeking a restful sleep.

Some tips for overcoming your menopause related insomnia:

If your problem is with night sweats:

Be sure to keep soft, light layers on your bed. If you’re too hot and have to throw off a heavy cover, you’ll wake up. Try covering up with a sheet, a light blanket and then maybe a light throw.

If your mind is racing and you can’t calm down enough to fall asleep again:

Keep a radio at your table with soft music available to calm your mind. Don’t watch TV in bed – it stimulates your mind and provides distracting light in the room.
Worried you’ll wake your spouse? Relaxation techniques can be done quietly and without getting up out of bed

And if you think you’re experiencing anxiety or stress due to menopause and insomnia, try these techniques to ease your mind at night:

If you don’t already exercise during the day, start now. Exercise is known to wear out your body but it is also a great stress reliever.
Yoga is a wonderful form of exercise
1000
for women of all ages, and you will learn some great poses to use for relaxation at night.

Nature Care For Insomnia (inability To Sleep)

Nature Cure for Insomnia
Insomnia is a symptom, not a stand-alone diagnosis or a disease. It is a common sleep disorder characterized by a lack of sleep or by sleep of poor quality. Insomnia, which often leads to sleep deprivation, can involve difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep or waking up too early in the morning. It is a complex symptom.
Insomnia is generally classified on the basis of the duration of the problems. Not everyone agrees on one definition, but generally there are three types of insomnia:
1. Symptoms lasting less than one week are classified as transient insomnia,
2. Symptoms between one to three weeks are classified as short-term insomnia, and
3. Those longer than three weeks are classified as chronic insomnia.
Insomnia affects all age groups and the incidence tends to increase with age. It is typically more common in people in lower socioeconomic groups, chronic alcoholics, and mental health patients.

Pattern of insomnia:
The pattern of insomnia often is related to the etiology.
1. Onset insomnia – difficulty falling asleep at the beginning of the night, often associated with anxiety disorders.
2. Middle-of-the-Night insomnia – insomnia characterized by difficulty returning to sleep after awakening in the middle of the night or waking too early in the morning
3. Middle insomnia – waking during the middle of the night, difficulty maintaining sleep. Often associated with pain disorders or medical illness.
4. Terminal (or late) insomnia – early morning waking. Often a characteristic of clinical depression.

Causes:
There are several causes for insomnia. Generally, causes for this condition can be separated into three categories: insomnia due to lack of disorder, insomnia due primarily to physical medical condition, and insomnia due primarily to psychiatric disorder.
Insomnia due to sleep disorders:
1. psychophysiological insomnia, Difficulty Initiating and Maintaining Sleep (DIMS).: It is cause by somatized tension, or stress that is expressed in bodily dysfunction, and learned associations that prevent sleep. Consequently, sleep, the one environment that soothes and rebuilds the body, is undermined by stress and anxiety.
2. Sleep-State Misperception: People with sleep-state
1000
misperception sleep adequately, but feel they do not.
3. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): In OSA, the airway collapses during sleep due to lack of muscle tone. A person with OSA may awaken from an apnea in the early morning and be unable to resume sleep.
4. Central Sleep Apnea (CSA): It is commonly associated with a cerebral vascular condition, congestive heart failure, and old age. Unlike OSA, there is no obstruction of airflow. During sleep, a person with CSA does not receive the stimulus to breathe; the respiratory musculature fails, breathing stops and the person wakes up to resume breathing.
5. Sleep Hygiene and Environmental Sleep Disorder: Inadequate sleep hygiene consists of all the habits that are not conducive to sleep longevity, like late-night exercise, late-night stressful activities, late-night consumption of alcohol or caffeine, sleep with loud noise, and sleeping on a poor mattress.
6. Altitude Insomnia: Ascension to high altitudes, those greater than 4000 meters can cause acute insomnia.
7. Adjustment sleep disorder: It usually describes insomnia related to acute, temporary stress, preoccupation, or trauma.
8. Limit-Setting Sleep Disorder: this sleep disorder is experienced by children. It is caused by a parent’s inability to enforce a consistent bedtime for the child.
9. Sleep-onset Association Disorder: This condition is most common in children. A child may need a set of cues to fallen asleep and if the cues are not present, the child has difficulty falling asleep and resuming sleep once awakened.
10. Food Allergy Insomnia: It usually begins in infancy and resolves between the ages of 2 to 4.
11. Medication-Dependent Sleep Disorder: Insomnia may arise when a person who takes chronic medicines.
12. Stimulant-Dependent Sleep Disorder: there are variety of drugs with stimulant properties that can cause insomnia.
13. Alcohol-Dependent Sleep Disorder: people who depend on alcohol to help them sleep may experience insomnia when they do not use it.
14. Toxin-Induced Sleep Disorder: Toxins, like heavy metals and toxic chemicals in the blood, can cause insomnia.
15. Time-zone change (Jet Lag) Syndrome: Rapid transmeridian travel desynchronizes circadian rhythm and leads to jet lag, which may cause insomnia or excessive sleepiness.
16. Shift Work Sleep Disorder, Shift Work Change (SWC): People who work alternating shifts may develop insomnia because of a continually fluctuation sleep-wake schedule.
17. Irregular Sleep-Wake Pattern: It may affect the elderly, people with central nervous system disorders, and people who are bedridden or institutionalized, all of whom tend to have less concrete sleep-wake patterns because there is no demand to go to work, go to school, and so on.
18. Delayed Sleep-Phase Syndrome (DSPS): In this the circadian rhythm is not synchronized with conventional sleep-wake periods.
19. Advanced Sleep-Phase Syndrome: People with this may find it impossible to stay up and they usually wake up very early.
20. Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Syndrome: It is a rare disorder in which a person’s circadian rhythm progressively signals sleep later each night.
21. Nocturnal Leg Cramps: Painful cramps in the legs and feet during sleep are common in the elderly. The pain wakes the person up and can cause sleep maintenance insomnia.

Insomnia due to Psychiatric Disorder:
Psychiatric disorder increase the risk of insomnia. Insomnia, including abnormal sleep cycles or excessive sleepiness, is often a prominent symptom of schizophrenia, and it is a common complaint for people suffering from generalized anxiety disorder and depression.
Insomnia due to medical disorder:
Insomnia due primarily to physical medical condition, are
1. Alcoholism: alcohol may induce sleep for up to four hours, but after that it can lead to frequent awakenings and sleep fragmentation.
2. Degenerative Neurological Disorders: Insomnia is often associated with degenerative neurological disorde
1000
rs such as Alzheimer’s disease, Pick’s disease, and hydrocephalus.
3. Parkinson’s Disease: Insomnia is a common complication of Parkinson’s disease and of the medications used to treat it.
4. Fatal Familial Insomnia (FFI): It is a progressive disorder that begins with difficulty initiating sleep and leads to total lack of sleep within a few months.
5. Headaches: Any type of headache that occurs during sleep may wake a person up.
6. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Many aspects of COPD can disturb one’s sleep. Low blood oxygen levels, coughing to clear secretions from the lungs, bronchospasm, and the side effects of the medications used to treat the condition can create a night of broken sleep.
7. Asthma: Asthma-related bronchospasm and subsequently airway obstruction is often worse during night. This may lead to shortness of breath that causes a person to wake up.
8. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and heartburn: Nocturnal acid reflux and its characteristic chronic burning sensation in the lower esophagus can arose one from sleep. If the symptoms are pronounced before going to sleep, they may cause sleep-onset difficulties.
9. Fibromyalgia: Fibromyalgia causes chronic pain in muscles and joint tissue, which can significantly disrupt or prevent sleep.

Insomnia diminishes the quality of life, reduces cognitive function, and affects overall health.

Symptoms:
Each person experiences insomnia differently. People with insomnia may:
1. Have trouble falling asleep.
2. Wake up and have trouble falling back to sleep.
3. Wake up too early in the morning.
4. Feel tired when they wake up, like they did not get enough sleep.
5. Feel grouchy, sleepy, or anxious, and be unable to get things done during the day time.

Treatment:
The main focus of treatment for insomnia is directed towards finding the cause. Once a cause is identified, it is important to manage and control the underlying problem, as this alone may eliminate the insomnia. Treating the symptoms of insomnia without addressing the main cause is rarely successful. Generally, treatment of insomnia entails both natural and medical aspects. The natural and alternative insomnia treatments such as acupuncture, massage, and homeopathy are some of the most effective natural sleep remedies. These modalities all aim to restore the body and mind to their natural balance, providing effective cures for insomnia.
